Me and a couple of friends are planning a trip up to the Chattooga for a day of fly fishing and Im just looking for some advice on places to go that are within an hour or so of Clemson. I would appreciate any input. Thanks.
dh section above hwy 28 is good this time of year. burells ford is a better camping experience (weekdays). some of the larger trout are in the few miles above the rafting takeout(bulls I think).
My favorite is the north fork. Go in at the fish hatchery, and walk down to the the main river, fish a bend or two of the main river, then head up the north fork. Great small stream. Generally only get one or two casts/pool. Its a little more than a full day of fishing.
thanks for the input, I think we will probably go in at the fish hatchery. I will post a report after we get up there.
I just recently went from Clemson (Citadel game) to North Georgia on the way to Atlanta and did a guided fly fishing deal with Unicoi outfitters. They have 2 locations. It was only about an hour and a half from Clemson but it only cost about $80 per man and we fished for 5 hours. Their knowledge of the local streams and patterns made it very easy to relax and enjoy… I caught the river slam of Rainbow, Brown, and Brook trout and overall me and my 2 buddies caught about 30 fish and missed a lot more than that. You may want to look into it… they provided anything we needed. I can post some pics of the trip if you wanna see…

Do you know what section/area the guides put you in??
I didn’t think guides were allowed on the sections above the highway 28 bridge. Fishing the DH is probably the best option (as far as numbers go) this time of year. If you want wild fish start above Burrells Ford (sp?) and walk up a good ways…the closer you get to Ellicot Rock the better.
