No matter how well tied a fly is (atleast for me), I inevitably end up with the fly stuck on some spartina grass at some point. The question I have is whether any of y’all have any input on whether or not to twitch the fly or try to strip it loose when you know that the fly is within a foot or two of the fish and the fly is hung on the grass?
Today and several times this summer I had a fish within about a foot of my fly but it was stuck in the grass and when I tried to free it the fish torpedoed away…Is this just luck of the draw or do you just keep still let the fish pass and then strip it off and recast?
My guess is to let it pass

I’d say your guess is correct. I have tried to strip free it and spooked the hell out of fish. Best to let it hang and hope the fish moves off but keeps tailing.
id let em pass for said fear of spookin. i hardly ever move my flies in under a foot deep, i have better luck letting it lay still, even with spoon flies. i definately know the feeling and it gets the heart pumpin gas-o-line.
Def wait! I must have cringed 10 times yesterday as my dad lined fish and got the fly caught in the grass. He would go to strip tight, And I had to yell at him to leave it and let the fish go by. he cast to one fish at least 20 times. Finally spooked it. Ended with three on a small orange redfish toad. And I snaked one on the spinner that he couldn’t see.
That is what I figured. It theory it should be easy to wait it out but in practice it is a lot harder. Also, do y’all still wait when the fish are just occasionally showing themselves?
Yes, too often, they have totally changed direction or moved on slightly and your cast will send it packing. If they are not showing well, then surely a cast well ahead of its last sighting can be done.
