Fly line choice

Thinking about getting a new 8wt line, I have used RIO and Sharkskin, I like the sharkskin but was wondering what you guys though about Airflo fly line? Thanks

I have an Airflo 300 grain shooting head and really like it, though I don’t use it very often. When I do it’s done everything I have wanted it to. I threw a sharkskin this spring and they are awesome, they almost shoot too much line, but the noise through the guides drove me crazy. I’ve always been impressed with Scientific Anglers, I had a problem with one once and they sent me a new one no questions asked. Got a Redfish taper from CA last summer and its a very good line

I just put the Cortland Bonefish taper on and it is sweet.

I’ve got three Airflo Ridge lines, one was a prototype given to me by a rep. The best one is on my 9 weight TCR. It casts great, seems to have a long head which I want. I have four Sharkskins and it seems they are a continuation of the same concept (less surface contact) They cast well too, the noise doesn’t bother me. I would recommend either. Who out there has tried the Cortland polyethylene line? I haven’t had a chance to cast one yet.

I noticed my line is a Cortland “Tropical”. Is this going to be problematic in the winter around here. It seemed even this weekend in the morning with cooler temps the line is stiffer. Maybe my imagination but what about when we get into the 40’s and such.

yea for an all purpose line i used that Rio clouser line so i could fish in all water temps, but if you can afford the sharkskin, get that

2nd the Clouser. Cortland Redfish is a good one too.

I have a sharkskin line and the noise doesn’t bother me so it sounds like that and the airflo are rather equal, BTW Reel Karma I like you signature quote!

If it swims throw a fly at it!

I have both and the Airflow is much easier to clean. Dirt gets stuck in the Sharkskin and doesn’t come off. It just hides. Besides that, it doesn’t turn over the groceries as well as it does snacks. The airflow casts both well, and it’s durable. I’m on my second season with the airflow and it still casts like new, and I’m really tough on my gear…

i have an older Airflo line and love it -10wF. the ridges make it shoot like a SOB ( same concept as the Shark Skin really). it has held up great in a variety of conditions- it is all weather.
i currently use rio on about everything. i really like the redfish taper…very good at the short shots. take a line with a long tapering front and try and hit a beer can @ 30’. its kinda haywire. a short head will deliever like a sniper, and still hit the long shots with heavier flies with good accuracy. i wanna be as close as i can to the bite while redfushin; gill flarin an all that, so i seldom cast more than 60’. plus its alot harder to hook a fish farther away from you. Look at the size/weight of what ur tossin, the general temp of the water, and average distance you throw…find a deal, who cares who makes it…although i dont like orvis wonderlnes. im sorry for the longwindedness…i cant sleep, my dambulldog is snorin like a hurricane. the wife is chimin in too, like a mouse with a sinus infection
