Fly patterns

So the electric chicken is chartruese and green. What about the dumbell eyes, any prefferences on colors? would guess you could use bead chain in shallow water as well?? Also read white clousers are working? Do reds take the clousers? I had a big red completly ignore a black clouser last week…until I spooked the he*l out of him and he took off. Need to tie some stuff up cuz i am headin south next weekend! Thanks

Tie up some lights, darks and hot colored combinations in a couple of different sizes and weights. Naturals as well as shock patterns will both get you bit if you can get on some happy fish. So worry more about your approach, set up and presentation than your fly. To be honest, the Reds will eat just about any type of critter or attractor pattern this time of year just as long as you can put the fly on the fish and get it down into thier feeding zone without spooking them! In addition, make sure that you let the fly do the work and don’t over fish the fly and fish it too fast, after all they typically like it low and slow in the cooler & cleaner water!

Nice tips JMB!

Thanks man, I appreciate the help. I am finally getting over the “weak in the knees feeling” when I spot reds, I just can’t get em out of my head when i am not fishing down there. Can’t wait to get back down there next weekend. I have yet to see a school of reds yet, as i only started chasing em this past summer. Is it pretty obvious when you see em all grouped upp?? Thanks again yall’s advice will definetly help my learning curve!

Exactly. Like the great Mark Krowka says about bonefish, "doesn't matter what the fly is, if you present it correctly and make it look like food escaping, they will take it to the colon every time."
