I was wanting to get into fishing the top water bite and for reds what size should I be looking for?? what are some good ones but will not break the bank (just in case I dont like it)? Thank you for all of your help in advance.
Try a 8 or 9 weight. TFO’s & Echo’s are good rods for the money as are the Reddington’s. I can put you in a higher end Albright EXS for a little more money if your interested. I’ve got a 3 piece 9 foot 8 weight, 9 weight & 10 weight if your interested. I’m cutting them loose for $295.00 each. Give me a shout if you’re interested they won’t last long at this price.
I have an Orvis 8wt that I love. 2 peice 9 footer. I hate 3 peice rods… not to say they are all bad, just the ones I have used cast like crap. I have yet to use a multi peice rod ( more than 2) that I have liked. Probably since I don’t have the $100’s of bucks for them. I have heard March Brown has some pretty nice 3-4 peice rods that are a little pricey but are smooth to cast.
Buy one of jmb’s and if you don’t like it (you will), then sell it for what you paid…buying a lower end set-up(s) and then wanting to upgrade is where you start spending $$$. Trust me.
The trouble with ignorance is that it picks up confidence as it goes along.
Reddingtons are really good for the money and they cast beautifully.

second that. Haz I’m out of town this weekend if you want to borrow my setup (reddington 9 wt. w/ orvis battenkill large arbor) you’re welcome to it. Water should be good up in the grass in the evenings all weekend. Make Stretch take you out.
