Hey ya’ll… one of the guys up in Maryland is staging a tying marathon to support their local Project Healing Waters (PHW) Chapter… we’ll I have contacted him and thrown the gauntlet down challenging him to a North vs. South marathon… The vent will be from 10AM - 3 PM. All flies tied here will go to our local PHW chapter and if it’s cool wiht them a small fraction, like 10% goes to the SC CHapter of Heroes on the Water. What we need is a place to do it on the 20th, I am pretty sure I can find a few places to maybe donate lunches, but more iportantly we need peoples to tie the flies! Please post up if you can attend or if you can support by donating materials, loan us a few vises if we need 'em etc. As soon as we can find a place we can start making more indepth plans… Maybe a few prizes/raffles… Let me know what ya’ll think.

I’m more than happy to lend my tying abilities for the event. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I’ve got a place in mind for the event - will look into it today to see if it is available.
BTW, I just checked the PHW website, and they have the MD tie-a-thon on the calendar for Feb. 27, not the 20.
Cool … I’ll get in touch wiht the guy up there and make sure we do it on the same day… we gotta whoop the yankees at this ya’ll know that right

i just had an idea on venue. not sure if its feasible or too late but perhaps a mall would allow us to set up a kiosk. that would allow promotion of the causes and give some publicity to the club. we would need enough electricity for lights, some card tables for clamp-ons, and we might not be able to practice ALL of our vices. if not this time maybe the next one. my .02.
p.s. i will be out by the airbase so the more norther the more better for me

Alright ladies and gents, we need to get an official roll call on who is and who isn’t going to come out to the PHW/HOW Fly Tying Marathon. Mainly, I need to let the Crab House know how many people to expect, but I also need to know who I will have to harass unmercifully until I get you to come out.
In all seriousness, the fly-tying marathon will be held on Saturday, February 20 from 10:00AM – 3:00PM at the Charleston Crab House (located at 145 Wappoo Creek Dr. on James Island). All flies tied at the event (or donated by anyone who can’t make it), will be donated to Heroes on the Water and Project Healing Waters – two organizations that assist injured and disabled veterans on their road to recovery by introducing them to the therapeutic qualities of fishing.
Want to pitch in but can’t tie flies? Not a problem. There are several ways you can help out:
-
Donate materials. Stop by the Charleston Angler and tell them to put together a material goody bag for the event. We’ll use the materials during the event for the flies we tie. Anything left over can be sent to the organizations for them to use in future events.
-
Donate money. We’ll gladly take any money that is donated and pool it in with the flies/materials to send to the organizations, as one lump donation from the Charleston fishing community. Keep in mind that your donation is tax-deductible, as both organizations are 501(3)(c), non-profit organizations.
-
Spread the word. Talk to your family. Talk to your friends. Talk to the guy in the cubicle next to you. Talk to anyone and let them know what’s going on and how they can contribute.
-
And finally, support those who are tying. If you can’t donate and can’t tie, hell, just come out to the Crab House on the 20th and shoot the proverbial “schitt” with us.
We especially want to thank our event sponsors, the Charleston Crab House for agreeing to let us hooligans use their facility, and the Charleston Angler<
Quick update, Ron from hookandhack.com has donated a bunch of tying material for us… THANK YOU Ron!!! he has a great business and if you aren;t gonna buy local from the CA and ya want to buy in line hit up his site. Tons of stuff and great prices!!!
