Fly Tying Vises

Anyone ever see a report showing the top Fly Tying Vises costing between $25.00 and $150.00 and the reasons they are rated as they are?? I saw one on the Ohio Fly tying website but not sure how recent it is.
Maybe some one has a more recent one they will sahre with me.
Thanks

I love my Peak vise… solid, rotary vise. Dynaking are good ones and if you have the cash Renzetti is pretty good too…

Thanks for the reply… I am shopping for a Peak Rotary vise. The best price I’ve seen so far is $149.00. I am a beginner at this hobbie and hope to find other Fly Tyers in my area that I can join with and learn more about this.
Many thanks again

I’ve got a Dyna-King (Kingfisher I believe) clamp on I’d part with. $80. Not full rotary but a good beginner vise.

Sounds like a great deal. However, I am holding out for a Peak Rotary Vise at the moment.
Thanks again,

Rodney B

Islander, how old is the vise?

Maybe 10 yrs. Still good as new. Been stored for the last 8 yrs or so.

Does have experiences with that $50 vise at the Charleston angler and the lowcountry fly shop? I believe It’s called the terra vise? Is it a good beginner vise that will hold up a long while?

Islander,
I sent you a PM

I answered.

$149 is the usual retail for the Peak… I HIGHLY suggest the little handle for turning ($10) and the extender to raise it up a little ($10) so it’ll be about $170… I have tied on my Terra vise, and Renzetti’s and I would take my Peak hands down over any of them…

NIkon,
Does that peak hold onto saltwater hooks pretty welll??
1/0,2/0

I have tied on the terra for a few years. I don’t have many complaints. Good vise, I am looking to upgrade soon though.

Anvil atlas is a great one. Picked between it and the peak but am with Nikon if I had to choose again I’d go peak.

I have tied up to a 6/0 on it with no problems… they do sell other jaws that allow you to go real big or real tiny. The jaws they come with are rated for up to 2/0 I think. I tie flies for the shop in the 1 and 1/0 range all the time and I just have the jaws it comes with

So Peak at $149.95 is as low a price as I can get? Is that correct?

Rodney B

That is the retail price… There may be some places that can do it cheaper but everywhere I know of charges that. They also have a kit that comes with all the acessories a spare set of jaws and a DVD for like $229… either way it’s a great price for an awesome vise…

Do you have any insight into what flys to use for Bass & Pan Fish on the Pee Dee Rivers?

Rodney B

Never fished up that way but a EP shad or baitfish patterns should do the trick as well as deer hair poppers… works everywhere else…

Thanks. If they work everywhere else then they should work up here once the water level drops back to normal.
