very fricken cool…if you ever get a chance to fly over the Morris Island Lighthouse and get a pic please send to me!

The Morris Island Lighthouse www.savethelight.org

saw y’all out there monday- looked like fun!!

first question that came to mind: how do you take off? that doesn’t look easy to run with, even downwind!

You take off into the wind. Taking off is the hard part, you have to inflate the wing and power the engine forward which helps you run. But you just run and suddenly you’re not on the ground. Very cool

Awesome pic, and a very crazy looking contraption you are in! Do you have a video of the take off? I would like to see that.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

That’s cool as hell. Is that your own rig or is there a rental/lessons/tour business around here?

Here’s a video. Towards the end there’s a takeoff.

Dude that is sweet. So can you put a rod holder on the back to taking that thing offshore for trolling??? Lol forget the boat.

Very cool. Does it control like a parachute, pulling toggles to steer?

Cool picture:sunglasses:

Yes, it controls just like a parachute, with steering toggles. In the last picture you can see him pulling on the toggles to start flaring the wing for the landing.

You could, but it would be some high speed trolling. They are a constant velocity machine and you can’t vary the air speed very much. It probably flies about 25-35 mph depending on wing efficiency and loading. Gaffing a fish may be problematic

To climb you increase power, to descend you decrease power, but the airspeed remains the same.

I used to be an instructor and dealer for a similar machine, but they had a small trike cart and wheels. My knees are too old to use them for landing gear anymore:smiley:

Hey Mike, that looks awesome (except when the engine went out) Careful up there!

That’s right, the wing will always try to fly at the speed it’s trimmed at. My wing always tries to fly at 23mph through the air trimmed slow. I can trim it faster to fly at 32mph. An engine out is mostly a non event as you simply glide down slowly. It becomes an issue if you’re flying low downwind or over rough terrain. During training I killed the motor before landing because when you’re learning it’s easy to get the lines tangled in the prop if it’s still spinning when you land. And you don’t need it. I had to demonstrate I could climb to 400 feet and kill the motor and land within 50 feet of a target twice in a row. In the video I was at 1,100 feet and landed 10 feet from my bag.
