Flyline

Just picked up a TFO 9wt and I need flyline for it.

95% of what I’m using the rod for it wading the flats. What is the best flyline for this application?

I’m a newb, I still in the learning process. Bare with me. Any advice is appreciated.

i like the redfish and bonefish tapers from RIO. Weight Forward Floating 9W. Scientific Anglers makes a great line as well

Scotty has tons of experience and I like his calls. I think he might agree that for a beginner, the RIO might take a little getting use to? I found the line a little stiff but, that's how it's suppose to be. My choice for 'the new guy' would be the Scientific Anglers. Hard to find anyone who doesn't like the SA lines.

I started with SA, but since Rio came out with the redfish taper, it is all I use for floating line.

Scotty is full of dookie… Over load your rod by 6 weights, yep use a 15 weight for that sucker and make sure it’s a line form BPS that come 1,000 ft for a nickel… can’t go wrong… Just kiddin, Scotty is the man and wouldn’t lead anyone astray. I have been using a intermediate line so it sinks a little and sometimes it’s cool but sometimes it drags the fly down too much and it’s hard to haul it up without spooking fish… Go for the rio redfish taper… I have found that spending the extra ducks for GOOD, QUALITY fly line makes ALL the difference in presentation and casting…

Thanks guys.

I have a Cortland RF Taper that is mean. It double as my Bass line( I live on Murray). Not bad and tough. Can’t speak for Rio, but if these guys are selling it, must be the real deal. the Cortland was all I could put my hand on and it serves me well. I do agree on buying a quality line and keep it clean!

What model TFO did you get?? I’d go with Rio or scientific anglers. SA makes a few “saltwater” lines that could prove versatile if you plan on fly fishing outside of just the Chucktown flats. Granted you did say 95% of your fishing would be that. I guess i like to prepare for anything…
