So I’m scanning google maps looking for good hunting areas, and keep seeing alit if small protected waters. Are these good for bass fishing? It would be fun to drive up there with my yak or a canoe ad fish all different water all day. Anybody ever done this? What are the likelihood of these natural ponds holding bass? Thanks

Yakman,
These FMNF ponds usually have some good fishing potential, but this past summer was (several proceeding) saw new low water levels. This info is from a reliable guy, so put that idea on the back burner for a year or two. I’d recommend a few spots with more reliable water levels; Quimby creek near Hwy 41 & 599, East Branch of the Cooper off of hwy 402 USFS Huger Park, Guilliard Lake near Jamestown (haven’t seen in years), Wee Tee Lake over the Santee from Jamestown, The Hatchery section of Lake Moultrie, the Cow Pasture section of Lake Moultrie between Russelville Boat landing and Bonneau, Wadboo Creek off 402 near Moncks Corner…just for starters. Half the fun is exploring new areas.
Yeah I love fishing new places. I’ll keep the above mentioned places in the back of my head. Just toying with the idea of fishing there, especially after duck hunting of during lunch break for deer and turkey hunting

You remind me of me when I was younger yakman. When I was a young(er) man I took my fishing pole back in there. I caught some of the meanest gar around back in the pools. Never anything else though. I still think there has to be good red ear, shell cracker and other sunfish in those pools though. I’d like to see a bass out of there…I bet that joker’s back would almost be black and his sides copper. Good luck. Take a pole and go find out buddy…all you got is air and opportunity.
