Foam off

I’m sure most folks are familiar with this product http://www.basspro.com/SureLife-FoamOff/product/74347/ $10.99 for an 8 oz bottle. Foam-off changes the surface tension of water to eliminate the foam. It only takes a few drops.
This week I noticed that Home Depot has 16 0z bottles of Spa Time antifoam http://www.spatimeproducts.com/mp/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=18302a0a94232210VgnVCM10000053d7010aRCRD&vgnextchannel=18302a0a94232210VgnVCM10000053d7010aRCRD&vgnextfmt=default clearance priced for $1.98 I bought it and tried it and it won’t kill your bait…it doesn’t have the drip top bottle like Foamoff has, so just save your old FoamOff bottle and refill it with this stuff…

Thanks for the tip. I can buy an extra dozen herring with the savings.

I stopped at the Harbison store on my way to work and no one could point me to it if they had it.

Woody, you must have picked it up in Lex?

You can also use Creamora, the non-dairy coffee cream. Get a few extra packets the next time you are in a restaurant.
A few flakes of Creamora works just as well as Foam Off.

I meant Coffee Mate, not Creamora. Creamora might work also.

As Reality Bites said, Foam Off and other similar products work by changing the surface tension of water. Most industrial/commercial de-foamers are oil based as oil floats on water. That being said, in the past when I used live large shiners on bush hooks (limb lines, set hooks, whatever you want to call them) to fish for catfish in the river, I used a few drops of cooking oil in my bait tank. I never had a problem with foam or bait dying.

I can keep shiners alive in a 5 gallon bucket, with no aeration, for a month. Have you tried cooking oil with shad or herring?

I have not, but I haven’t fish with them. I would try it, though.

Yeah I got it from the Home Depot in Lexington…Chip said it had been cleaned out though by the time he got there…there were probably only 3 or 4 bottles on the clearance rack when i got mine…My wife asked why i didnt buy them all and I said this one bottle is going to last me two years at least…

SCGMC I’m always looking for ways to save money while fishing… Its usually not the savings from one instance that makes a difference but the sum total of all the things that I do that make it cheaper…whether its catching my own bait, keeping bait at home, making my own repairs, or using alternative and cheaper products that acheive the same purpose…Since I’m not going to tell you my fishing holes, I can at least pass this information along…lol
