Foiled Again!!!

I thought I found some nice, kid friendly, lakes to walk around and fish. Come to find out they are owned by a company that charges $400.00 a day or $5,000 a season to fish.

$400 per day?! They must be trying to keep people out of there.

There is more than one way to say no.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

According to the website they just opened in January and the place has been stocked with bass from 2-10lbs.

Dang, whats in those ponds, virgins?

So were is this at? Dang… $400 a day for freshwater bank fishing!!!

Most city's and county's have fishing programs for kids. They supply fishing ponds and fishing gear for kids for free. I have many connections and years and years of participation with these programs.

The fishing gear is usually supplied by NON-governmental agencies and the guys that make sure the kids catch a fish are usually people like me. I can’t remember ever discussing who I am going to vote for while I set someone’s kid up for fishing on the edge of a fishing pond.

But… if you want to give me $5,000…

Ask someone else.

The lakes are off of 17A about 2 miles after Dorchester and 17A meet. I don’t know if it would be proper etiquette to post the companies name.

Bigger…I have all the gear, it takes up a good portion of my garage. My issue is finding a place to take a now 4 yr old that may need bathroom facilities. She may just have wait till the water warms up and we can hit the pier.

Try Horseshoe Lakes out on Hwy 61.

Call the Seewee Center and tell them what you are looking for. I know it is in the opposite driving direction but, they should be able to tell you where they have fishing days and events and also, just ponds that they manage that are open to the public. I have given those people many many hours of my time just for the reason you are talking about; parents fishing with their kids that need access to safe and fun fishing ponds with no entry or access or parking fee. You might be surprised to know that the City of Charleston also has/owns fishing ponds both fresh an salt water. Call the City Parks and Recreation Department. Seewee has bathrooms and nature trails through the wetlands and Red Wolves and 4 ponds, the City of Charleston (just thinking of one location off the top of my head) has ball fields with bathrooms and a concession stand and a pond. If this information doesn't help please, let me know.

Thank you again for the suggestions. Hopefully I will be posting pictures of a happy, fish catching, little girl, soon.

I know where you are talking about. Those lakes used to be part of hunt clubs until property sold. Then that company came in and cleaned the place up. Haven’t tried since they moved in. I used to park on the side of the road and catch nice bream out of that place. Have they finished putting up the chain link fence by the road? The one lake at the junction of 17a and 61 belongs to the Shriners.

Coot…There is no fence or gate up, and I didn’t see the company sign till I drove on the property and saw it by one of the lakes off the road. I heard the Shriners don’t give permission to fish that lake.

Dang, that’s downright laughable. Are you sure someone didn’t misplace a decimal point?

They run some tourney’s on those lakes. I fished there by invitation a couple of years ago and we put some NIIIIICE bass in the yaks over the course of 2 days

Boat drinks, Waitress I need 2 more boat drinks!

I saw on the website, they do tournaments and duck hunts on those lakes. I just don’t see paying that kind of money to fish lakes I could walk around.
