Got the family reunion goin on at Folly for the next two weeks. Keepin the Yak at the parentals beach house and theres a dock, gonna try to get out every day. Ill try to post the reports every few days:
Report One (Sunday 7-13): Ocean was really calm around 8am, so I paddled out past the breakers and fished the sand bar about 200 yards off the old coast guard station. Caught two whiting and one spot tail. All three about 12 inches, and released. Caught on mud minnows on the bottom.
Report Two (Sunday 7-13): Enough water in the creek behing the beach house so I put in back there at 2:30pm and fished the Folly River around the grass. Caught two trout, about 10 inches, and released. Also caught on mud minnows on Carolina Rig.
Should be more reports to come in next two days.

Are you fishing around all those oyster bars and flats behind the washout? I’ve wanted to yak fish there but haven’t decided how to get there yet. Been through there once on a scouting voyage, didn’t have a rod but looked promising.
Yup, thats where Im at. I can get there from the beach house were at by way of a little creek, but the easiest way to get there is just from the landing. Its good fishin out there at high tide, when all the oyster beds are covered up.

Hmmmm, may try it Saturday then. What “landing” are you talking about?
The Folly public ramp? I don’t remember any put-in further north on the island.
Yeah the public landing is what Im talkin about, there isnt one down the river, unless you know someone with a dock. Ill be out Saturday as well so I might see you there.

Report Three (7-17-08): Got out after dinner, put in off the dock behind the beach house. Fished Folly River at high tide with mud minnows on a Carolina Rig and a Bottom Rig:
2 Shark (<12" on bottom, released)
2 Sting Rays (on bottom, released)
3 Spot Tail (on CR, all between 16" and 20", all released)
On the way back the tide was so high I could cut straight across the marsh grass and skip the long way around by creek. Spotted some big Reds (30"+) tailin so put on a silver spoon. Drifted and cast all the way back to the house. One hit hard but lost him after about 3 mins…
Report Four (7-18-08): Went back out this morning (about 8am) to the same spot to try for the big reds I saw last night. No takers on muddys, silver spoon or jig. Storm rolled in and drenched me on the paddle back. Back out again tomorrow.
