folly beach area

Im from VA and have been fishing the naval weapons station and Im ready for a change. Im a surf fisherman and dont do piers. I have my 7’ st croix and 13’ surf rod. If I go near the park on the beach will frozen shrimp and live finger mullet work for fishing for reds, flounder and whitting? This area will be new to me but Im tired of the base. I have a big red to my credit. Im basicly asking for input to have a fun day. Ive been told to go near the park and fish near some jettiies. I can fish close and far so bait of choice is a big question. I even have my cast net and sand flea rake, can I get sandfleas there? Are whiting there? ( we call them sea mullet or round head ).I appreciate any help info wise from the surf fishing folly beach guys. Do yall throw gold metal for reds down here like we do for puppy drum ( reds ) back home? I hope yall help out a fellow fisheman out of state. Ill be here until late september. Thanks

There is a surf fishing forum, and you could do a search for it. I have not caught a red and the surf yet, but all the baits work very well. Cut blue crab works extremely well for reds. Lures are ok in the surf… just make sure you don’t hook into a 33" King mackeral.

Fish RIGHT NEXT to the rock groins at folly with live minnows and fresh shrimp. This time of year surf fishing gets pretty decent. Also look for shelly areas of beach(black drum). No need to chuck out real far unless targeting sharks. Clean water helps a lot

so I need to get fresh market shrimp, frozen shrimp is not the answer. Are flounder around the rock groins and will a floating cork be ok to use?

Both sides of the tides behind Fort Moultrie has been pretty good.
