I’ve been up and down the shell banks from the landing to behind the county park and have seen many reds and sheeps…no flounder. Can some one point me in the right direction. I’m in a 16ft Jonboat with plenty of light. Going to try east. Should I be in the creek and flats?
Flounder move deeper in the cooler months. If you had shell banks and clear water, you were likely in the right spot. Was there any bait around?
Bait is the key. Be on the lookout for finger mullet and shrimp. If you find both, especially near a creek mouth - then there are flounder there. It is just a matter of finding them. Add an oyster bank to the mix and things get even better - especially ability to see them. Some areas that are great for me in the summer are about dead now that the bait is thinning out.
I tend to move a bit faster this time of year with the clear water and slow down once I start finding them. Where you find one, there are almost always more.
Also don’t ignore puff mud areas you have t skip in the summer. With the clear water you can get in there, at least for a single pass, and find fish you would never be able to see at other times of the year.
I work the other side of the harbor so sorry, can’t give you any specifics.
Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions. I am not an expert, but will be glad to share what little I know.
The most important thing to remember, is you can’t find ANY if your feet are on land. A night on the water is great.
By the way, tonight looks GREAT with very little wind. Heading out with 2 of my kids in about 30 min.
Good luck!
