Folly River and Inlet 5/18

Headed out of Folly Landing at 6am with my buddy and his father in law. We decided to hit some docks to start our day. No wind water was glass. As we went to deploy the stick it we realized the nats were AWFUL! The fishing was slow however a nice landowner asked if we were fishing for spot tail and we replied “yes sir”. He told us to try the next dock up which turned to be successful. First fish trout then second fish red. Things slowed again and we decided to head towards Morris island a little ways and tried a creek inlet. Third fish flounder! Three fish and inshore slam complete which I have NEVER done. We then headed to the inlet and caught some whiting and rays. Two of the three pics attached… Third is on my buddies phone I will post later. Great job Rufert!

Headed back out that evening up the ICW by Sullivans and IOP and the red fish wanted nothing to do with mullet. Threw some shrimp on a pop and cork and they hammered’em. 5 Slots largest 20" and one over slot 25"… Great day on the water!

FYSA - NATS killed us Saturday AM. Went to hadrells that afternoon and they have No Nat spray. That stuff is AMAZING it totally works. Its a little thick and will make the deck really slick. Try to spray with the wind on the edge of your boat to not create a hazard!

Nice report. What was the tide when you were in Folly River?

Good day by any standards. I’m interested that you said they were hitting the shrimp so hard - I fished minnows this weekend with minimal luck and wish I had tried some shrimp and cut bait. Water was about 78 degrees where I was fishing, hard to believe how quickly its warmed. Enough yackin’, nice report

RSANSBU: Falling tide… Low was 8:24am on the Folly river last saturday so I tried to be on the water by 6am.

Rob: As of late I seem to destroy cast nets on oyster beds so I got some frozen finger mullet, mud minnows and some shrimp. The fish wanted nothing to do with the minnow or mullet. I put some shrimp on a pop’n cork tossed it up on the grass line and let it float with the current. Pop pop and boom… Three casts with shrimp 17", 18" and 20" slots all in the live well. Went up to a favorite dock same thing… Let it drift with the currnt under the dock pop pop and 25" red… It got late and I decided to release all three… Back in the creek to tighten a line another day…

** I had about 2 1/2 feet of leader and one split shot 3/4 down with a 2/0 circle hook and I hooked the shrimp by the head…
