My bud and I went in search of spottails yesterday afternoon. We bought frozen peeler crabs from Crosby’s and went to a feeder creek off the Folly River. It was just after low tide. We were both using 20 lb. test power pro with 25 lb. test mono leaders rigged with 1/2 oz. egg weights. No spottails but plenty of bonnetheads. Hooked nine and got three to the boat.It is a trip to fight a four foot shark in two feet of water. We renamed the creek " Bonnethead Bay " .
that feeder creek is famous for bonnets…wish we would have remembered that last Fri…nice catchin’!

I can assure you that if you put in at Folly landing, turn left, and fish the first major creek on the right (there are actually two creeks merging there into the river)… you’ll find bonnetheads.
Moral judgment under girds the entire structure of laws and is necessary for the rational structure of any significant statute. The idea that our laws can stand independent of moral foundation is senseless.----- Albert Mohler.
I might just take my niece and bro there tomorrow, weather permitting.

I usually go to the right a good ways. Are there bonnets heads that way or is it not as good?
If you can crack a crab and put it on a hook, you’ll catch a bonnethead within 30 mins. I can’t keep them away from a crab bait. I use wire leader and 2/0 circle hook. Fish on the bottom like you would for a catfish. I’m going to filet one this year and try to eat it. Haven’t had a lot of success eating shark… still looking for that magic method of catch, clean, filey and cook a shark of any type.
gut hm as soon as you bring him up. WARNING: PERENTAL ADVISORY as soon as you pull him up, put the knife thru his head, bleed him out, and gut him on the spot. LEAVE THE FISH FULLY INTACT THOUGH. sharks urinate through their skin and that is the reason you want to get rid of his guts right away… give a shark any amount of time and he will smell funky…once you get him to the house, just cut steaks out of the body, no need to filet, the skin will peel away easily when cooked.
i like italian dressing or lemon pepper for marinade,A GOOD MEAL!and your random, nonfishing guest will say “Aesome we are having shark tonight,SWEET !!!”… all the while youre thinking to yourself…"yeah but i was planning a meal of redfish:wink:"
liquor in the front, poker in the rear!
I’ve never bled a shark, and mine taste just fine. Leave on ice for 18-24 hours to make the skin come off easier. Clean it like a catfish. I’ll tell ya what fried or grilled shark steaks are awesome!
Never thought about frying it. Might have to give it a try next time.
