Moved to charleston about 7 months back, finally got a boat and made it out last week for the first time. Didn’t find too many fish but we did find shem creek which was great because we got pretty thirsty not catching fish. This week I want to put in at folly ramp and hit some docks with live bait. Anyone know of any watering holes or lunch spots you can pull your boat up to in folly. Just incase I find myself in a similar situation. Also anything I should know about that ramp or area? Thanks for any help~Dan

There are a few places over there that you can take the boat, i think. I know you can get bait at crosbys seafood if you run out while on the water. they have a little dock that you can use dock briefly while in the store. there are a few place to eat over there (sandcastle, bowens island, sunset cay marina, and maybe a few more. The ramp is a pretty good one. At least, I have never had any trouble there putting the boat in and out. If you go towards the stono at high tide there is a big sandbar in the middle of the river right at the sunset cay marina. the marker marks it well and you can see it at low tide. you can go on either side of it but if you go to the left(marina side) be sure to wind back across river with the channel. I love fishing folly because it is scenic. There are some good fish there too.

i believe sunset cay in south folly is “members only” but last i heard that was a $5 annual fee. worth it to stop in for cold ones, smokes, and a fishing report from the locals.
only thing about the ramp is that it fills up by midday on nice weekends, and if you park a vehicle without a trailer in a “long” trailer spot, you might get a ticket. there are precious few cars-only spots there for people who might meet you at the ramp.
if you get tired of fishing and want to relax on a beach, cross stono inlet to kiawah and join the party there… or head all the way north across lighthouse inlet to morris island. both are pretty family-oriented and low key compared to shem creek.
if you see an aluminum v-hull named “sweetea” stop by and say hi!
Yall shoulda seen it on Sunday. We ent to get our crab pot in bowens island creek, pulled up to the first moored sailboat to get our bearings,it didn’t work, to the left towards the islands on Tonys creek it was all water in front up the creek around the bend to the left all the way to folly road all water. The marsh was completely underwater. The rocks were less than a foot from being under. And the creek on the sand beach the tip of folly was touching the river and the waves in the surf were crashing into the marsh grass. And if you a 19’ sea fox bowrider with a black mercy with no stickers and a Chas andlet and HPT thing on the Windows or a Jon boat with redfish reaper decals on it say hey! barberawang I think I’ve met you at the sandbar and beach by sunset cay last summer with your wife… we had me my dad mom 8yo bro and a white and black border collie…
