Managed to perfectly syncronize my arrival at folly landing with my wife today with that of a blowup thunderstorm. Still very new at this saltwater thing and had some time to try it out. Tide was dead low. After tryin unsuccessuflly a few times to get the anchor to hang and let us stay under the bridge i saw some blue sky towards morris island. Went up with the channel and found a few promising looking creek mouths. One was full of minnows! throwing on them I also got some shrimp. So i figured I was in the money. Fished on the bottom and the wife caught two ray. I fished a cork with a shirmp and cut mullet on the bottom followed by a ray fillet on the bottom. All for naught. moved a few times and never saw or caught or even had a bite. looks like i better stick to giggin!
Did manage to find a oyster bank with my prop a stones throw away from 25’ of water!
I can relate with the whole anchoring problem. Folly river is mostly just sand so anchors just get pulled around.

More chain on your anchor will solve that problem…mine will set on any bottom so fast it’ll throw you off the bow if you’re not ready.
get a couple of feet of chain for the anchor and use a fluke style anchor with straight flukes…I hate those “happy hookers” or whatever they are called with the wavy flukes…oh and keep going…if you fish enough, you will eventually get wet!

I do have some old chain laying around. ill probably put a few links on. thanks. Back to the fishing equation of it. I know how to find and net the bait. i know what a carolina rig is and fishing on the bottom is fairly simple. But i think i need some knowledge on what to look for to locate the fish. 1 undersize trout in two trips aint gonna cut it
Not links…feet as in At least five. As for the fishing, sounds like you’re headed in the right direction. More time on the water is what you need.
Hey Sniper,
I think I spoke with you under the bridge that day. I was the guy sheephead fishing under the bridge and you were asking why I was knocking the barnacles and oysters in the water. Well it just so happened that about 2 minuetes after you left I caught an eight pound sheephead on an oyster! Give it try next time you are out there. Bring a small rod and shovel with you to scrape. Just pick an oyster off the bridge and put in on your hook. Fish dead low tide. Tide must be slack. Look for the slightest movement on the tip of your rod and set hook. Takes a while to figure it out but when you do its loads of fun!!
Fishboy, I am going to have to try that. Thanks so much for the advice!
yea that was me man! glad u got one. all i got was wet lol what a day!!
