folly

This afternoon I decided to fish almost all new spots.I fished folly/kiawah with a wide variety of lures but mostly top water (skitter walk). I also fished a live shrimp under a cork a little to give my wrist a break from walking the dog. Ended up w 7 trout, two lady fish and one red, which was my only hook up on the top. Had good number of blow ups as the trout were trying their best to eat the skitter walk but kept missing. Oh, and I caught one trout on a smokey shad z man paddle tail and had a few that I missed on the trusty TT. Found some scattered reds on a oyster rake in one of my new spots, but they would not eat. Tried live shrimp,a few different z mans, gulps,a spinner bait, skitter walk,x rap, and tt on these fish and nothing. The water was kind of muddy so it was hard to see them and i probably spooked them eventually. Had a real nice flounder on a z-man jerk shad but he came off half way to the boat, which sucks cause I have been really wanting some fresh flounder and he was a good size for dinner. I also figured out how to walk the x rap subwalk. Its a little bit different than the surface walkers but I have it dialed in now. It seems like that bait may be able to be fished in a few different ways. Walking it just a few inches under the surface, using it kind of like a twitch bait letting it sink then twitch and reel slowly, reeling it straight in at a fast speed and using it like a suspending jerk bait all look very good under the water. Also, it has a special vmc sure set tail hook which i think will increase the hook up ratio at least a little bit. I do believe that is going to be one effective lure. Has anyone else tried the rapala x rap sub walk?

So, all in all it was a pretty good day. Not a ton of fish but I did find a few new spots, learn how to use the x rap, caught one on top water. And, as always, it beats the heck out of sitting around the house or working!

I fish a xrap for largenouth and it is deadly. Normally I use it as a twitch bait! Didnt know you could use them in the salt

Went by that boat a couple of weeks ago and a guy was on the boat with his line down one of the deck openings. Seemed like a decent idea, didn’t stick around to see if he had any luck.

23Sailfish catches fish around that old boat…

The Morris Island Lighthouse www.savethelight.org

have also fished that boat a lot with no luck - several good places nearby though!

Yea man, I used to do a lot of large mouth fishing and the lures are almost 100% interchangeable, just may have to change out the hooks on some or those big reds will bend them straight. Also, skirts on spinner baits don’t last long when you got 10 to 15 lb red fish hammering them.

Sub walk speed reeled great for Spanish twitched and paused its a shallow water trout killer. Think I have yet to get a red on it but sure it would get one in the right scenario. Great bait but the hooks have to be replaced after a season or so. Chartreuse head is my hoot but I have one of those blue ones too
