Just my luck huh…been running great. Took it out fri for bait. No issues…sat morning for the MSC tx everything was fine. Got it on plane and starting Hearing a clicking sound. Got worse as the day went on but never lost any performance from the motor. Top speed was still fine. No noise in neutral or reverse, only forwaed…
Just pulled the bottom oil plug and it shot oil out 5’. Never seen one have pressure like that. Pulled the prop and prop shaft carrier…tiny pieces of metal in there…This doesn’t look good…getting ready to drop the foot so I can pull the drive shaft…
Anyone want to buy a boat?

Good luck, Chip. Think I’d rather have chunks than little pieces of metal. Are you suspecting deterioration around the inside of the weld or something else? Guess you’ll have to figure out how high pressure figures into the problem.
Just got done tearing it down. It’s scrap aluminum now. Easy fix. Won’t take but 10min to fix this time. Just put a new/used one on. Bearing came apart. And u can imagine what it looks like if u take a handful BB’S and put it inside of a foot. It’s a miracle we didn’t get stranded on the lake sat.
Look for a For Sale topic soon…lol…prob post some nice rod/reels, bait tank etc… unless I can find some funds elsewhere…

Same thing happened to me. I found a used foot off an 81 johnson that is on my 78 evinrude now. I paid 600 bucks so it will be expensive but its not a show stopper.
I have my son’s boat sitting at the house. He was up from Mt P this weekend. We decided to take a look at the oil in the foot so we opened the bottom plug…looks like milk.
534$ shipped to my door with 30 day warranty. Best I could do. I looked everywhere. Found some a little cheaper but none were guaranteed. This one comes with a new water pump/impeller as well. If it’s gonna go out its gonna go in the first 30 days. I will run it like crazy in 30 days. Specially this next month coming up. Will be here Friday at the latest.

Just in time for the shallow to warm up and kick in the big bait freelining season. Not that the big bait freelining season ever ends or begins for you
$534 for an lr with a warranty is a pretty good deal. I remain very impressed with what you and Happy Bob did with the old one. Maybe this will end your motor issues.
No biggie Bob. I really thought so as well. It was just her time to go. With what I invested on the fix versus how much use I got out of it afterwards I am extremely happy…
