Forty Love

Don’t anyone get excited. After dealing with the holidays, wind, rain, cold, and LHM’s schedule I was anxious to get out for a couple hours yesterday to check out my new planer Boards and big Slip Floats that I got as Christmas presents (it’s nice to be your own Santa). The Captain stayed on “shore leave” as I went out to try and learn the ropes of handing this new gear, before she gets the itch again (and a 36 pounder will get her scratching). Anyway, after a little doing I think I got the handle on successfully deploying planer boards and the float and really like what they do and the capability that they give.

I know that most of the fish have been reported recently as being up lake, but I thought maybe I could get luck and so I started fishing the points leading up to 40 Love and then fished all the way down it and back out, generally in 10 to 5 feet of water. Water temp was 50 degrees. Never saw a single fish on my graph or got a strike. However I had noticed birds frequently working up and down the Beard’s Creek main channel. On the way in, at least content with accomplishing my objective of learning the new stuff, I looked the channel over. Saw fish frequently at 35 feet in 45 feet of water in the channel. Next time I’ll try and have my sights set higher.

There are definitely stripers in Beard’s Creek this time of year. I’ve found them there pretty regularly. The first two places I would look were around the CG station then Amenity point.
