I second what crowbird said! I went deer hunting in the francis marion last week and the amount of squirrels made it sound like a herd of elephants, deer and hogs were all coming out at the same time! Find a swamp bottom with some oaks and hardwoods in it. The squirrels will be there! Start shaking some vines and they’ll come out flying.
ml913 where were you at? I was by the boggy creek gun range and all I saw were birds. Hundreds of them.
Late season I hunt in the pines for Squirrels since they are feeding on pine cones a good bit this time of year. Seen a lot of Squirrels lately along the Santee River that were feeding on the last of the Overcup acorns. Been still hunting Hogs and the Squirrels there have really paid no attention to me walking by, could have killed many with a slingshot I got so close to them…when Deer season closes me and my 22 are going to wear them out. I’m going to wear my orange hat an vest to make them THINK I’m still Hog hunting…
