Got rid of the 4 in front of my house on James Island to make room for flower beds. Broke two shovels and destroyed the bar on my old chainsaw before going to TruValue to buy a double bladed axe. Every time I plant something new that’s deeper than 6 inches I am still fighting their old roots. Cut them out 3 years ago and I am pretty sure that the roots are still alive. At least they look that way when I have to chop them out.

Wrap a rope around the base and snatch them out with a truck. It will get most of the roots.

Put an add up on craigslist for free azalea bushes and somebody came and pulled them out!! Worked out pretty well…minus the holes in the ground!
