Free Ice

The gas station at Folly Rd and Ft. Johnson Rd. opened back up and is giving away free ice to boaters who get at least 8 gallons of gas(that’s the amount they told me). There’s a sign out front and everything

Somebody told us Wall Street fell but we were so poor we couldn’t tell. Cotton was short and the weeds were tall but Mr. Obama gonna save us all

What is the "and everything" part? Are there balloons? Dancing girls?

Thanks, Mr. Chizzle.

That sounds good as I normally take 260 lbs. with us trolling. Too bad that would be way out of the way for me…

While were on the ice subject, is there any where in the Charleston to buy bulk ice? When I was a kid I can remember going by the ice house (upstate SC) and they would shovel ice in your cooler. I guess they figured out that it was much more profitable to put in in those little bags.

Crosby’s on Folly Road sells their bulk ice…you shovel it yourself…

We get our ice from one of those Twice the Ice machines. $1.50 for 20# bulk. Not as good as Rap’s deal he shared, but better than going into a gas station and buying the bags.

those places work out about the same price as bulk from Crosby’s…I’ve got a 500# machine in our shop that magically fills my coolers every weekend!

We are getting hosed, royally, on ice in this area. It’s frozen water for cryin out loud. I had never paid more than $1.25 for a 10# bag of ice until coming to Charleston. I bought a bag at the gas station the other day and it was $2.25 for 10#. I almost fell over.

Texas, it’s 20# for $1.50. You need to stop buying your ice at strip clubs.

HAHA! it’s always so watered-down, too.

seriously though, those Twice the Ice machines are making a few enterprising people some ridiculous money. the overhead cost of putting up the building and badazz chiller, then hooking electric and water… the rest is just emptying the money box.

free ice at bonzo’s!

But the "stripper glitter" floating around in there sure is pretty.

A twice the ice machine is about $115,000 installed. I couldn’t make those nubers work.

The Charleston Maritime Center downtown sells bulk ice that’s perfect for icing the catch, although not for using in a mixed drink. Cost is less than $15 a bar, which is about 300#.

I have been contemplating an ice machine for the house. But then I think $1.50 for 20lbs…hum

Running the numbers its 40,000 lbs of ice before I even break even on a $3,000 machine. In other words I can visit the ice machine over 1,333 times before I would break even.

So lets say you buy 50 sessions a year at $1.50. It would take 26.6 years for the machine to pay for itself.

It really only would offer some convenience.

the blue water on folly rd. does that for a while now, dont even have to buy gas, just pull up with your boat and walk inside, theyll give you as many 5 gallon buckets as you can handle

lostlocal101 is right all the Blue Water stations give ice. There is one near you. The company is owned by the Eddie Buck family and they are big time fisherman.
