Freeman 33 Sinks

Can you believe that some oil companies leave abandoned well heads in the open ocean sticking just a couple of feet above the surface? That’s crazy sounding to someone who doesn’t live in that area. You can see the obstructions protruding from the water in the below photo.

I don’t even know what to say; this is tragic and unbelievable. How hard would it be to put a marker on the darn thing?!? I cannnot fathom how it is legal to have this thing unmarked in the water, creating a hazard to navigation. Talk about ruining your day! I was glad to read that everyone will be OK.

Folks from down there say there are literally thousands of these in the water. Great fishing structure, but makes sense to me that they be cut off 15’-20’ below the surface. But what do I know…I’ve only ever fished in the Atlantic.

Hope they are OK. Here’s a link to the charter site and boat pic:

It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!

That is terrible, I hope they have a quick and speedy recovery.

I use to run boats in the oil fields and there were numerous areas where it seemed we were in a forest of pipes, no structures, just pipes sticking out of the water. Some were several feet tall others were just above the surface. Some say they are wells that had been capped for future pumping. At night or in the fog they were a scarey sight on the radar screen.

Sad story hope they get back on there feet soon!!

Need floors?? Just ask!!!

I’m not a sue happy person, but I’d have to go after the oil company on this. I wonder if they have any legal options with something like that?

Problem is, that these pipes are abandoned by no longer existent oil companies. They went out of business before there were laws in place to transfer liability to the company that bought them.

That is absolutely nuts im suprised this hasn’t happened sooner (for all i know it has.) Thoughts and prayers go out to all of them.
