I’m looking to hire a freshwater guide this December for a trip around Christmas. Frankly, I don’t know squat about freshwater fishing this time of year, but I’m looking for a good trip for an older relative. My family typically fishes saltwater inshore, but getting in and out of a smaller boat has become a little difficult for him. He loves to fish for crappie, but I’m sure shellcrackers or catfish would be fine too. Basically whatever is biting is fine, but I was thinking a guided trip on one of the Santee lakes might be good since I understand some guides fish out of a pontoon boat? Any big, stable boat would be ideal. We’re also not committed to the Santee Lakes – we’re from Georgetown, so really anywhere within 1.5 hours or so of that would be fine.
If anyone has recommendations for a knowledgeable guide that would offer a trip like this, I’d really appreciate it.
If he would be interested in catfish and stripers I would recomend Joe Drose 843-351-2860 if he has not retired. You may also check with Kevin Davis at Blacks Fish Camp.
I am Capt Alan Spence, I guide out of Lake Marion, I run a 25 foot tri-toon. You can go to Spence’s Guide Service.com and see what kind of boat I have, I am also on Face Book. I have an Inclouser on the boat for winter. Catfish are the big fish bitting during December and Stripers might still be running if the weather does not get real cold for long periods of time.
