Got a late start and headed to the top of buffalo creek. Had a buddy of mine call me yesterday to say he was sitting on his dock watching the striper just go absolutly crazy all over his cove for at least an hour.
Figured they would at least be in the area. There were some but only pulled one short out of there. Marked a ton of fish/bait but most looked small.
Moved back out to the channel and moved up the lake to just above spinners where at least 10 other boats were working. Again marked just a ton of fish and bait but fish just weren’t chewing. Pulled in the planer’s and floats to concentrate on some deeper fish and move a little slower. After doing so picked up a nice 26" and 24" fish. But nothing else. called it a day around 1 and headed to the house.
Took the Redi-rig float idea and made my own last night with stuff i had laying around the fishing junk pile. Worked great.
I have seen some fish stacked up before but NEVER this tight. Pulled a couple down rods through this and never caught anything. Am I wrong assuming this is fish? Or maybe not stripers? At first didn’t think so but turned the downscan on and appears to be fish, maybe something esle? thoughts?
On the water at 8:a per wife it needed to be at least 40 degrees for her to go. Started at Johns Creek in 50 to 60 feet and found 2 shorts in less than a 1/2 hr. Figured I knew better and headed up lake to Timberlake area for bigger fish. No luck. Tried back into Beaver dam and No luck, just a few pull downs. Worked around Wesinger, and them back into John’s Creek. Found a lot of fish in 60 to 75 feet, and landed 2 more shorts and a 22". Would have done better, but the bait was dead, and the wind picked up (around 11 the sky clouded over, and the wind picked up out of the west) back to the dock by 1:p. Large numbers of fish, from 50 - 75 feet in Johns creek area, wish we would have had some live bait. Good Luck all. Put the boat up for cleaning and general overhaul until after Christmas Wish everyone a Merry Christmas season.
I was thinking more along the lines of carp or even school of gar?. If it had been cats i am sure they would have been biting, just as a striper should have been.
ok…i hope to be on the water by january…i’m picking up a cc tomorrow.it needs the transom reglassed.do you know anybody that won’t rip me a new, that does that kind of work?
Chip, I agree with the guys. Those were white perch and good sized ones too. A 1/2 ounce Berry spoon would have proved it. My father would have insisted on spotlocking there and filling the box:smiley: The man loves his perch!
Saw you out from Spinners when I was on my way upriver. I slept in and took my time. Ended up with 6 keepers today with a couple around 8 pounds. Wednesday afternoon, I had 7 keepers. Most came pulling in 12 feet of water and less. All were released for another day.
After Thursday morning, I agree with the white perch idea. My deer hunting got messed up by some very noisy duck hunters, so I left the woods shortly after daylight, got some coffee, and decided to try the white perch. The first place I stopped was pretty good between 30’ and 36’. The second place was also pretty good between 31’ and 36’. I caught 47 perch, not including all of the ones I threw back. But I pretty much had to quit because my hands were cramping up from working two rods. I caught most of the perch on the 1/2 oz. Berry spoon, but I also caught them on two other spoons.
I think I could have done as well today but the wind was too strong where I wanted to be fishing.
Fogman, one of the spots was near where the big catfish got put in your boat last November. The biggest perch there were over a foot long.
