Started the morning on a bad note access. battery dead push on any way. Started in a confused sea in the ship channel. Started slow trolling in and out of the shrimp boats Bam king hit rocketed out of the water. Was fishing with a first time king fisherman so I was handcuffed got him to the bow and cleared the rest of the lines with his drag screaming. Before I knew it he tells me the king is jumping again and then he screams the line is gone. Penn real was spooled and the drag was burned up. Got lines back in got covered up by sharks the rest of the day. Only other high spot was a 34" red fish weighed 24lbs fatty that put on a little fight. Just the beginning of the season they are on the way in shallow. Used 4-5" menhaden on Z-Man skirts pink, white and blue was working for use.
hey was wondering if you have heard of any kings being caught at the middle grounds or whitewater reef plan on fishing tomorrow. thanks
Redfish ate the trolled menhaden? Had not heard of that before.
neither have I a new one was a good surprise that broke up the sharks. Never in my life have I caught a red trolling menhaden for kings.
hey gdaddy,
Sounds like you guys had a nice fish on! Took wife and son out Saturday. Tossed my new 9 ft menhaden net at entrance to shem creek…could have filled 3 live wells with all the menhanden…mostly small.
Trolled around jetties, then tried the near shore reef and capers area. We didnt catch or hear any mention of kings on the radio. My son did bring a shark to the boat which I released.
We are going tommorow, Tuesday. Have heard some good reports of the Y73 and Comanche area. Thinking about heading out that way first thing in the am.

Afternoon weather forecast kept us from running as far out as Comanche / Y73. Menhanden were plentiful inside the jetties.
We started at the Charleston 60, didnt give away a fish or mark anything to speak of on sonar, after a couple hours we went to The Shady Grady area, had one strike the cut the center out of a good sized menhanden and left us holding the head and tail with hooks still intact. Tried the low country reef and nothing going there.
Finally ended the morning/early afternoon trolling off folly beach.
My son caught a large spanish mackeral and we had a ribbonfish cut in half. That about covers it. Overcast day, calm, no sign of schooling kings, spanish, or baitfish off the beach on Tuesday.
Its got to be about time for the schools to show up.
Best Wishes
