Should of took the hint when it took 3+ hours Thurs eve for the ride down from Columbia due to a truck on fire and then a stalled car on I26, but continued on to give it a try in the morning.
Put in at IOP and went to R8 with the hopes of catching some sheeps, but the BSB were intent to make sure that didn’t happen. Drop to the bottom and a fish was on by the time you engage the reel. Tried bucktails and spoons hoping to at least hopefully get a few bigger ones, but still all short.
Wind started pick up and since I was only getting BSB anyway, I decided to head back inshore and try for some trout and/or reds, but no such luck. Fished pretty much the entire falling tide throwing grubs and tt’s around the ICW from the inlet all the way down to just above BS bridge. Nothing!
It was dead low very late afternoon, so I just decided to call it a day and went checking out spots where we had caught some reds recently when the water was up. Most of our reds come as by catch when trout fishing, so while the water was dead low, it was interesting to see exactly what those areas look like. I’d really like to get to the point of having enough confidence to be able to go out and strictly target reds.
In fact, I believe that will be my New Years resolution.
