Friday 12/7 late report

I looked at the weather early in the week and realized my only chance to fish some decent weather was to take a day off as the weekend once again looked like a total washout. The only day I could get worked in was Friday so we loaded up the boat, washed the ice off of the deck and hit the water. We had a 6.3 high tide around 8:00am so the plan was to work some areas and wait for the tide to turn and see if we could find some fish. I would have preferred to go early in the week and work the incoming, but was thankful to be out. We had until about 11:00 to fish due to other commitments so we did not waste much time in any one spot to try and find some fish as quickly as we could. We ended up finding some fish, but never really could get on any large concentrations. Had one spot where we caught 3 trout back to back and thought we were getting ready to wear them out only to have them shut off as fast as they turned on. The weather was outstanding and it was a beautiful morning on the water.

A nice day to call in sick!

Am I looking at that picture right? Do you have the boot tail rigged up instead of down?

I’ve had two people tell me to try rigging it that way, apparently it keeps it down in the water column slightly better. I haven’t tried it yet, may have to do it with the water getting colder.

I would like to hear some opinions on this subject also. I rigged mine like that for years when they first came out until a friend enlightened me. I don’t know if it makes a difference? I would appreciate it if some of the heavy hitters would weigh in.How bout it Opti,Simon,Stump,bang,frio,40,P,fireman,fat rat.Sorry if I left anyone out

Yes. I had an old timer tell me that rigging them this way in the winter would help keep it down better. Same guy told me about fishing deep holes with Mirro lures and he did me right on that one so I have rigged this way in the winter when fishing this style grub. I am not sure if it makes a big difference or not, but I catch as many as anyone with me rigged this way. Hard to say for sure because we are all a stubborn bunch and have our go to lures in the winter so normally we are all throwing something different anyway

Just noticed the last picture in Hurricane’s (Simon) post looks like he may have his rigged the same way.
