Pastor and I chose to give it a go today. Right after we left Lake World with our herring it started pouring, but was all but stopped by the time we got to the boat at LHM. In an attempt to avoid as much wind as possible, elected to just fish Beards Creek. From the beginning marked lots of fish and had lots of powerful strikes doubling the rod and ripping planer boards under, BUT they weren’t hooking up. (Looking for potential answers, unknown if we may have had the line clipped too deep in the clip.) Finally wound up with two keepers, a 21 inch and a 28 inch that my scales said 9 1/2 pounds. Pulled in one cat, and unfortunately the gars found us. Pastor concurs that stripers are much more exciting than walleye. Now he has one that he can compare all the others against. Really windy when we lost close contact with land, but still a pretty good day.
