I took my boys out Friday. The plan was to scout a good camping spot, shell cracker fish, then anchor up for some cats. Two dozen baits in a bag and 10 rods. Found a good camp and caught a few Shellies. Looking around for a good spot to catfish we began marking a good number of what I would say are stripers. The depth was good for cats too so we anchored. We got the baits out and sat down to eat our sandwiches. Two bites in the first rod went off, Striper. We end up with 6 in a row before we could get a bait back out. For an hour or so the action was steady catching around 20 stripers, no cats. Most fish were 5-6lbs with one around 8lbs. After a short lull in action we had the front rod slam and the fish went under the anchor rope steady smoking line. The fish ran off about 100 yards of line over about 60 seconds without slowing down. He ran us around a shallow marker but eventually moved off back to deeper water where he found a tree but came out of that too. After a 15-20 minute fight we got it to the boat. 37" and probably around 22-25 pounds. It took 15 minutes but we revived it and parted ways. After my 5 year old and I had a similar size fish pull hook right next to the boat in February, this was sweet redemption. Having both of them on board this time makes it all the better. I’ll post a pic once I figure out how to insert an image of Hollywood Bridge in the background. fish were caught on CB sitting on top of a point. They came all around the boat.
Got the pic. Tommy was on the cam so this is the best one we got. I took one of him as well. I’m not sure why it looks like I’m in the ocean. I guess the fog rolled up or something.
Congrats on a great catch! Kudos also for being so persistent in reviving the big one! Richard told me you all caught a big fish. I had a chance at a monster yesterday, but blew it:imp: I posted a report on the striper fishing forum.
Nice fish you **&^%(&(&%&_&(^_)& Seriously, congrats.
At least I did get to redeem myself on Saturday for such a terrible tourney last weekend…
Had a great day fishing on Saturday pulling FL and PB’s…took my 2 year old out for a little over an hour mid way through the trip and he got to catch his first striper and watch me catch about 10 more. He was having too much fun catching bait in the bait tank and releasing them into the lake to worry about fishing. Nothing like some live chum to keep them biting and David hooked me up bait wise earlier that morning so didnt bother me.
Not at all. The water temp was around 70. All fish were caught in water less than about 25’-30’ deep. That doesn’t help much this time of year since they move around a lot. Like I said above, they came from all around the boat.
You must have been freezing with all the snow and ice in the background…lol Get a coat man! Lets see, 70 degree water too…Must have been a thermal vent or warm water discharge there… I think I know that honey hole! Most definitely Glacier Bay! Are you sure you didn’t photoshop a penguin to look like a striper? Awesome fish!

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
