Way to Go OX,

Looked like it was a good day for you, How long was the big Thresher Shark ???

Peace And Ease

Everyone should believe in something, I believe I’ll go fishing !!!

not a thresher from Ron’s description. Sounds like a Sand tiger. Theyt are all over in 100’ now. Top lobe of a threshers tail is as long as the whole body. Sand tiger is brown, and has teeth like a Mako.

I’m not sure exactly what speies it was. After looking at pics on the web you’re probably right sellsfish, one of the other guys with us suggested it was a nurseshark. It was a monster whatever it was. It was easily over 7’ and at least 200 lbs.

thats a big thresher there sells. hooked one of similar size years ago in the tail while trolling spoons for kings. took us 2 1/2 hour to reel it in backwards.

The older I get, the better I was.

hope you kept it. they are the best eating of all the sharks. Just like a Mako, they don’t have the amonia smell to the meat.

no we released it. we called all our buddies to find out the state record but never got a definitive answer so we let it go. he swears it was the state record but we will never know. i was late to work so we had to make a quick decision. probably should have kept it. thing was friggin huge.

Sells, did you catch that one from the beach?

that is not a thrasher shark… this is a thrasher shark… but it is still a nice…

solo…top pic. is a sand tiger (federally protected), bottom pic is a thresher.

it’s thresher, not thrasher.

Sells, we would probably agree on the fighting characteristics of sandtigers. Pretty much dead weight…have you noticed that they always let a big air bubble go when you’re fighting them on rod and reel? If you see that air coming up you either have a diver or a sandtiger…
