Friday Low Tide

Decided to skip the whole work thing today. I grabbed my cheap 8 ft walmart kayak to do some kayak/wading/shore fishing. Caught 7 reds, 2 trout and a flounder between low tide and the first two hours incoming. It’s very difficult to fish out of an 8 ft plastic kayak, so I primarily use it to get from A to B. “B” typically being a oyster rake or firm bank that I can walk on. I did however, rig up a bracket to hold two rods so I can troll for trout going from A to B, and I am happy to say that it works.

The reds were in the slot except for the one that got gut hooked. One trout was legal, the other was about 8 in. I threw everything back.

Unfortunately no takers on top water yet for me. Nothing on the VuDu or the DOA, Gulp all the way.

I will have to say, I just started about a month ago using ProCure in an attempt to keep from paying $7 a pack for Gulp, but so far I am not impressed. The VuDu is $9 for 2 and I am not very impressed there either. Maybe it’s the way I fish them???

i find gulp hard to beat, I know everyone has their favs but I have seen gulp outfish live bait.

I’ve also found Gulp baits very effetive and have seen them out fish live bait several times. I’ve also seen live bait out fish the gulps many times, probably more often. I like to have both. I sometimes buy other plastic lures and I put those in the Gulp bait juice and let them soak a while. That stuff works.

Have you found any particular color/flavor/style of Gulp that have worked well?

I think it’s all according to how and when you fish. Live or cut bait always works better for me when fishing spot tails. My best baits for trout have always been artificial. Good luck and be safe out there!

I use vudu, doa, and gulp. Gulp has always worked for me. Lately i’ve been hooking flounder on a 3 inch natural gulp shrimp with a chartreuse jig head. Heres a video for saving a gut hooked fish. I’ve been using this technique for a few years and i’ve always saved every redfish that i’ve gut hooked. Hope it helps.

Thanks Al. I will try that technique next time. I hate killing a fish that’s not going home with me.

Thanks for the video. I will also try to use that method.
