Friday Night Trolling....Sloooow

Decided to get the cobwebs off the trolling grear and give it a shot last night. Put in right at dark and fished till about 1 am with only 3 fish. A couple in the 22" range and then a 27" about midnight. All caught about 60-65.

Marked quite a few fish and thought it was going to be better. Stayed dry but there were storms in the area and the wind was whippin and made it really hard to control the boat speed, so it may have been better if it wasn’t blowing so hard.

Looks like the weather is expected to be finally getting back to normal here as the week goes on. Hoping to give it a try again then.

We had high hopes to hit it hard tonight with live bait. However the only lightning storm in the state decide to bear down on the lake around 6:30 after buying bait and grew to a 90 mile long line travel straight over the lake for over 4 hours.

Needless the say, the bait it still soaking in the boat in the driveway. I am hoping to head out early in the morning. Otherwise I’ll have some nice chum/shark bait.

Any tips for fishing in the am, as it sounds like the towers aren’t doing much now.

Did decent sunday morning. Put in about 6:30 with the bait still lively that was purchased the night before.

Fished between the ramp and the river channel and never got over 90’ and had 4 nice keepers by 8:00. Nothing after that, and a storm rolled in about 9:30 so we packed it in.

I will say it was nice going 4 for 4 with all fish between 24"-27" and FAT. The smaller hooks are working. All 4 were perfect lip hooks.

Saturday night trolling was slow for us. Only got 1 24" fish. Had a couple more knock downs buy didn’t hook up. It still baffels me how a fish can hit an
8-9" bait with 3 treble hooks and not get hooked somewhere…haha

Was planning on live baiting, but my buddy was at the house helping me put stuff in the boat and said he wanted to try those downrigging things…hahah. he doesn’t like them anymore and I have offically named him downrigger…he will never ask for them again. But it turned out to be a beautiful night on the water once the last downpour ended…

I thought I saw you trolling in front of the towers as I was coming over the dam. Don’t know many forward console boats striper fishing on Murray these days.

I sat on the hill from 6:30 until 9:00 and called it when it looked like it would be 10:30 before the rain let up.

How you guys can sit in that big pool of water with lightining striking all around is beyond me. Maybe you and all the sail boats out there know something I don’t know about lightining and water.

We stayed out while the lightning was a little ways off. When it started getting pretty close we headed to the ramp to pick another buddy up. Set under the shelter till it moved on then ventured back out. I can deal with it when its has some distance between us but not when its getting close. My buddys don’t do well at all if they can see it anywhere…

I am hoping in about 3-4yrs someone will still find my boat intriguing…have a 24’ seaark in mind…the seaark 240procat is a beast and they will move the consoles up another 2’ for me. That will be my last boat…haha. can only down size from there.

There’s always room to upgrade. When you get old and tired, and want to get out of the sun and have a comfy couch to lay on while you wait for the bite to start, you can upgrade to a sport cabin like a Parker.
