friday (report)

taking a break from the salt and hit murry friday morn. till about 130 or 2. planning on fishing northeast of shull. any reports of fish in that area. haven’t really been up to date with the stripers lately. but would like to put at least a couple of keepers back in the cooler. also where can i find a map or something with the sceg ramp numbers on it. seen people using them as a reference. any help would be appreciated as always you guys are great. tight lines to all.

Mornin’, Chip. Lake World has the Fish-Hunt map of Murray - probably the most comprehensive version for lake info. Most reports are coming from up the lake.

ok will pick up one of the maps today and what the heck i will make the trip up river maybe put in at alcopocco <sp? or at up on 378 around the traffic circle. hope to figure this winter thing out but i guess will look for 30’ to 40’ dephths then drops to the channel? points of the lands. i will try all i can.

Murrymaker, where do you usually put in at?

I normally put in at Pine Island or the Dam. I’m going to start taking the boat up lake to try and chase these fish. I too am pretty new to the winter fishing.

I’m not sure where I’m putting in at yet, but I’m planning on fishing where the two rivers meet at the top of the lake.

will put in at ramp 4.i’ll get my bait at spinners.spinners has a ramp but it’s not that steep.i have to back the truck to for in the water.fishing alone it gets to be a pain in the butt.parking isn’t that great either.it’s easy to get blocked in.ramp 4 is about a mile and half to the forks maybe…

sharky, what time does spinners open up to sell bait?

I’m going to be towing the boat from Irmo and put in at Buffalo Creek. Might see ya out on the water. What channel will you be on?

Well I’ll be in the key west, not sure who with yet. I’ve had nobody give me a definate yes, but I’ve had at least 10 maybe’s. Sounds like I’ll be fishing by myself. Haha

You shouldn’t have too hard a time spotting me. Look for the Furuno radar and listen for the loud music. Last weekend we wern’t catching anything for a few hours so we cranked up the music…LOUD…and we started catching fish! I guess they like the bass.

there’s something behind that.

I’ve always hear of people beating on the bottom of their boats to get the fish interested. Guess I’m doing something similar.

You just wern’t playing the right type of music…these striped bass get very picky when it comes to their winter music. They like a little hard rock and rap it seems. At least the little ones do

this could be long but here goes. wind wasn’t really that bad. have been out there in worse. finally got my stretch’s and u rig to run the depths i wanted (without using lead core) wasn’t any help really though 3 short strikes on the u rig and one on the stretch from 8am to 10. hard to believe they don’t hook themselves with the trebles. anyway decided to do some real fishing and dropped anchor in 40’ hoping to catch so i could fall back over 60’. first try nailed it. opened the baittank and see only 8 living fishes.:roll_eyes:shrugged it off and dropped 4 dr and 2 fl within 10 min 4 fish in the boat all on drs. this continued for about 1 1/2hr bite slacked for about 45min moved about 100yrds bite back on fire. left them biting at 2pm baitless went through a generous 3dz. stopped counting fish at 25 only problem was the smallest was 17 biggest 19. had a blast just being back on murry, i may have just gotten the bug again. lol. did end up bring home 2 nice channel cat and 2 perch (i have never seen perch get so big nor swallow a 6" herring with an inch sticking out of its mouth) these perch went 12 and 13 1/2" and almost a pound a piece. guess they were running with the stripes. sorry for all the reading and nothing to bragg about but will have some nice fish soon. i will see to that:wink: …tight lines to all and good luck to all of you who are out saturday…

Nice post. I’m headin out, see yall out on the water. Catch me on Channel 72 or 16. “PeaceMaker”

Hey Steve, the last I talked to you was at the HP desk at VC Summer (last summer). I’ve been working at Brunswick all year. Glad to see your having a good time catching fish. Sounds like you got the hang of it.

I wouldn’t say got the hang of it…but I do get lucky from time to time. Got skunked on saturday fishing around the upper parts of the lake. Still had a good time though. We tried drifting with downrods, freelines, trolling live bait with planerboards…everything I could think of. No luck. Guess that cold front and rain was messin with them. Not to mention all the mud in the water.
