I took a couple of vacation days & hit the lake with the wife Friday morning. She goes with me about once a year. We didn’t launch until about 7am., a little later than I wanted to, but she wanted to sleep in.
We started pulling boards on the west side of Pine Island. We had hits almost right away, but no hook ups. Landed 3 shorts in the first 30 min. Then it slowed down. Cruised around Goat Island & she hooked up with a big gar. The last fish of the day was a 5lb. largemouth, again, caught by the wife. I think this was the first time she actually enjoyed going out. I gave her the trolling motor remote so she felt like she was in control:wink:. Finally gave up about noon.
I got permission to go again on Sunday, so my main fishing buddy, Porkchop(my big red wiener dog)went out. Hit Better Bait at 5:30am. I expected to see Murraymaker there, but I guess he slept in.
I’m still having trouble launching the Lund by myself, so it took longer than I wanted at the dam ramp.
We went back to the same area as Fri. and while putting the 2nd. board out something hit it when it was free spooling out. Missed it. Then 30 sec. later the first board went. A short, but fun. I ended up with 7 fish caught and I don’t know how many missed. The bite slowed (stopped) about 10:00. I fished for another hour and gave it up.
All in all, this was on of my best days on Murray. I’m still learning and getting a little more comfortable pulling planer boards.
