Friday the 13th

Middle of the bay coolered out in 4 passes. Shrimp were mixed in size.

Also got a written warning from the game warden. Make sure you have flares when you go to Bulls Bay.

Followed by a written warning from the MPPD. Trailer lights…

Suppose Friday the 13th is my lucky day

Threw some flares in the boat and installed new LED lights on the trailer. Now wind wind please go away…

No pics??? I’ve heard that if there’s no pics it didn’t happen.

As usual, you put most of us to shame.

make sure the flairs are in date! All flairs have expiration dates and the man will get you for old outdated ones!!!

So Glad you are shrimping this year…girl shrimpers are a rare breed… we can can launch the boat…sling a net and make a bait ball. Good job on your catch. Hope you found a good partner that doesn’t tear up your boat or throw the net in the prop.(My madden name was Heather Lehmann)

Nothing to get excited about. Mostly small to medium mix, didn’t see any jumbo shrimp for the first time in the bay. Made me sad… :face_with_head_bandage:

Fortunately I caught some jumbos before the season started

heather; you look just a super as you did last year however; hanging around hoppy does not help. ha ha. no; really he is a longtime great friend of mine. glad that you did well but no surprise. hope to get down there at least more than once this year. take care.

Was the warning for flares from Dnr or Fish and Wildlife? I had fish and wildlife ask me for flares up there and when I asked him if I was outside the lines of demarcation he said no and that I didn’t really need them where I was but from a safety standpoint I should have them. I’m guessing you were not in an area you needed flares.

SC Department of Natural Resources - officer mentioned something about being in a body of water over 3 miles wide…

Just get you an orange distress flag and keep it stowed. That way if you’re flares have expired, and you didn’t realize it, it will save you a ticket.

If you are anywhere but in a creek in Bulls Bay, you need a visual distress signal. A flag meets the requirement for day, but not night.

I guess you need them on lake Marion, too then…

I think they consider the open bay to be past the col regs line, as in need the same level as open ocean.

It’s not the width of the actual bay that matters, it’s the opening to the open ocean. If the opening of the bay is wider than 2 miles, then you need VDS in the bay.

Charleston Harbor, Key Inlet, Winyah, etc. do not apply. St. Helena Sound, you better have flares or other device if you are beached on the back of Otter Island.

I have also had DNR ask for flares only. When you say no or they are expired, they write a ticket without ever asking for alternate VDS’s.

My dad had a flag on board, and expired flares. They asked for flares, and saw they were expired and wrote a ticket. The whole time my dad is trying to explain to them that 1. he didn’t need flares in that body of water, five fathom creek, and 2, he had a flag which was good for day signaling.

Still got a ticket, went to the hearing and the DNR officer got embarrassed.
