So, had a buddy come in town from good ol Flo-Town. He wanted a mess of fish for the fam, so I tried to help him. We started out around 6 and hit a few spots on the incoming tide. The jetties were pretty rough with the gale blowing out there, so we opted to troll a few new spots for some flatties. No luck, so we ran up to Tubbs Inlet and picked up a few keepers, and we looked back to see that was a good decision. It’s kinda funny when you catch a nice flattie in front of some of the know it alls. Had 2 guys tell us we were higgin the best spot after they saw us net a nice keeper. I simply told him,“The early bird gets the worm, Pal!”. We also had a bonus cobia, but he was a good bit short, so he swims to see another day. That was a fight for sure when you’re expecting a flounder. It acted like a nice red to start with, but was a little different when he realized he was hooked up. We left there and ran to some flats to hunt the reds, but the wind made that really tough and we got skunked. We ran to another secret low tide spot for reds, but we couldn’t make it happen there either. We did see 2 come up on other boats, but we just didn’t have what they wanted, I guess. Anyway, good to have a buddy on the boat, and better to send him home with a mess of floundas. I sure do hope this wind lays. I had to cancel the annual father’s day trip today because I just didn’t want to fight the wind again. Hope you guys that went had success.
Thanks for the Report. I (we) fished about 4 days last week (LR ICW) and didn’t do much of anything. Blues, Toadfish, some Floundee that wouldn’t measure. I ran up to the OIB (bridge) late on Wednesday but didn’t get a bite.
My Wife caught a 19" Flounder a week ago.
Catmandoo, it’s tough right now for some reason. I usually don’t have to look so hard for a mess of fish for dinner, but the past 2 trips have been tough with the wind and the murky waters. I hope you have better luck next time you are out. Try the jetties if you are looking for flounder. We have been doing very well out there with them. I even talked to a guy who had 17 keepers last week. Nuff said about that, huh? Be safe out there in the heat this week guys.
