Fridaythe 10th

I no longer have a boat, but got invited on a trip for Friday. We leave Chapin at 0100 and make our way to Charleston, whooo, that’s early, I miss living in the Lowcountry. We get the boat in the water around 0345 after Haddrells hooking us up with some bait. Can’t beat their service! The ride out was rough. It was all the 255wa SePro wanted, all I wanted too. Headed south outta Charleston in search of the Dolphin. Saw some weeds formed up nice in 300’ but we decided to push out a little deeper, thinking the dolphin hadn’t found the shallow water yet. Made it to 800’ and started deploying lines. Out goes the shotgun and immediately zzzzzzzzzzzz; Few minutes of reeling, and in goes the Marsh Tacky gaff. Got the shotgun back out and got the rest of our spread out and Zzzzzzz, port long rigger gets a hit, decent bull on, and in the boat!!! 5 minutes of action died quickly. No more bites or true rips all the way out to 1300’. Scattered weeds everywhere, but nothing that screams life. We got 2 more in 1300’ and continue on to 1600’; not another bite, no good signs of life.
Headed back into to where we started our action(800’) but got hung up in 1300’ with another bite. We worked 1300’ most of the day and picked several singles. No doubles or triples all day, one at a time. That worked out well for us though, we were a 3 man crew, and 14 fish was more than enough. This was probably the first time I’ve ever been offshore and not bottom fished, but we were wore out, mostly from the ride out. Ended the day with 14 decent dolphin, sore bodies, a little sunburn, and smiles and memories you could never take away from us. Blessed day on the water with a box full of fish for a bonus.

I’m trying to upload photos from the iPhone with no luck, I’ll try to get on the laptop.

“Wore out” yes, but it’s a good wore out.

Good report. I can never get photos to upload via iPhone either. I always have to use the computer.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Nice report! I was out Friday also…we spent time on a huge weedline around 200’ and got nothing. In retrospect we stayed there too long but made it out to 1300’ around noon and started catching. End of the day 13 dolphin mostly good size.
