Its so cold this time of year…please keep a extra set of dry clothes in your boat…just in case…at least socks, sweatshirt and sweatpants…and hope you never have to use them. It may seem to be a extra and take up too much room, but believe me…if you ever need them… We had to give some clothes to someone who fell in the other day…stay warm and be safe!
Merry Christmas Everyone!

A local captain and friend taught me to keep dry clothes on board during cold weather. Oversize them so they will fit anybody on board. I pack them in a dry bag and also add a towel. I pack them so the first needed item comes out first and so on. Towel, stocking cap, sweat shirt, sweat pants, socks (wool) and gloves (wool). Also, not the time of year to fish alone. Water temps have dipped into 50’s this week.

oh yeah…we have a small wool blanket in ours too and some of those packet hand warmers…if you vaccum seal them they take up less space…another nice bag for storage are the plastic ones with plastic zippers that linens and blankets are packaged in when you buy them…
one other thing…if wearing rubber boots of any type…oversize so they can be kicked off easily if need be…water filled boots are a dead weight to someone…pocket knife…cut them down the sides if need be…boots can be replaced

good advice, penny. also we should all be wearing a lifejacket when the water’s cold. you can’t tread water very long in cold water.
if you have ever had to swim after your oyster boat in December (rope came loose from the cajun anchor) you will understand…

agree. Have jumped in Murray in February a few times with water temps in high 40’s and you can barely breathe. You won’t last long.
