Fripp Island Inshore

Just reaching out for any thoughts! We are headed to Fripp next week - have 18 CC Sea Pro and will be primarily exploring inshore - may slip out to the Fripp Island Reef as well, as I think weather is supposed to be favorable. We are Edisto people and haven’t fished the Fripp area at all. I’m assuming we will put in at the Fripp Island marina and was just looking for any thoughts, intel, etc. Thanks much!

I could not tell you about Fripp as I have never stayed there but, there is a landing just back across the bridge from Fripp (Russ Point) that will put you in the river between Fripp and Hunting Island and give you access to open water. There is another landing (Butcher’s) but it is pretty tide specific so I would stick with Russ Point if you cannot find a landing on Fripp.

As for any specific spots, I’m afraid I don’t have any such intel. That area fishes a lot like most of coastal SC. Live bait on jig heads, live shrimp on popping corks, all along grass lines or small creek mouths. I find scouting during low tides has been helpful as well. Of course, the dead of summer makes it all a little tougher (at least for me).

I have had moderate success kayak fishing the Harbor River between Harbor Island and St, Helena’s Island.

Have fun.
