Any ideas on how long it would take to drift fish (throwing bass lures or bouncing for catfish) from Cypress Gardens Rd. launch down to the Bushy Park launch?
I’m thinking of (in the spring) drifting down but I have no idea how long it would take. If it’s under 8-10 hours drifting, I’m doing it.’
I have a 12’ canoe, btw. No trolling motor-- this thing has no hull ID and the state will give me a fit trying to get it registered.
But there is “low, normal, and fast” current, essentially. Before I try it, I’m hoping to find at least an idea on how long it will take in those situations.
If you’re up for a trip, I’d be interested, but we gotta do it very soon. Would have to be a Friday or Saturday since I work or am at church the rest of the week. I’d probably bump the bottom for cats.
We could meet at Bushy, leave one vehicle there, and ride up the Cypress Gardens launch and float down. Use the last vehicle to go get our one up at Cypress at the end.
Pm sent. Correct me if I’m wrong but google maps driving directions say Cyprus is only 10 min up the road from bushy. I can’t see it taking 6-8 hrs to float that distance…maybe 3-5

From the boat landing on Cypress Garden down to Bushy is at least a 6 hour drift. You have ricefields you have to work through, and when you get to the tee’s the water is so unpredictable. The best thing I would suggest is to get a boat and try it from Cypress Gardens to Bushy before you try it with a canoe. There are places along the river where it is tricky to navigate. You should post this same question on the saltwater side because people have done this same trip. When I had my canoe I would put in at Oakbrook and drift down the Ashley, and put in at Edisto State park and drift down the Edisto. Another place you can try is put in at the boat landing at Gilligans and drift down to Cypress gardens. I know I rambled but I hope I helped you with your question. Good luck with your trip.
Matt it depends on which float your gonna make. Floating down to the fresh water side of Bushy park would take about a quater of the time. From Cypress Gardens going up river then back around through the Tees you are taking on a heck of a trip. The idea of riding it through in a boat is a great and probably very safe idea.Good luck
Lol, my canoe has no motor other than the oars I put on it. There’s no way I could paddle it up from Cypress into the main part of the Cooper and float down to the brackish side of Bushy lol. I’d drown in my own sweat.
From the cypress landing under the bridge to the bushy landing is a pretty straight run. Have come down from bushy ramp with my keywest and it wasn’t bad. Droppin a car at one is a good idea.
Just watch the tide. It rips through Durham Creek (your path to the Fresh side of Bushy Park)and it would be hard paddling upstream on an outgoing tide. According to a google earth plot, it is about 6.6 miles by water from the Cypress Garden bridge to the freshwater side of Bushy park. Pretty good area for a paddle, if the speed freaks are not running by every 2 minutes.
