Hey y’all, I grew up in ga and stalking trout all over the mountains and now I’m moving up to Mt Pleasant in less than 48 hours…I’ve got the itch to catch some reds when I get up there, so I need a little advice…I’m going to be wading for them and so far the best advice I’ve heard is if the grass is below he knees then its safe wading… Can anybody point me in the right direction of some good starter flats to get used to know what to look for? Also, what are the typical go to files for reds, I’ve been tying for years but never for salt… Will I ever really need my waders or wading boots for the flats? I’ve been to Low Country Fly Shop and will definitely be visiting the shop again…
Shoot me a pm, we can fish sometime, I was in your shoes about 3 years ago, trout bum to salt, do you have an 8wt or larger ??
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Check your PM’s.
Same with me bro. I’m a trout bum, I’m from Kentucky and I always fished the Cumberland River every year for browns and rainbows and also made trips to Montana and Wyoming to fly fish and I’m still not used to the salt water and I’ve been here a few years.
Like Hurricane701 said, if you got an 8wt use it. I use my 8wt Sage rod with my Ross reel for reds and trout and it works pretty well. It can’t really handle anything much bigger than that though.

Hey thanks y’all…and hurricane when I get settled in I’ll send you a pm so we can get into some…I’ve got a TFO tiCr 8 wt and an old glass 7 wt…I can’t wait to get on some reds
8’s are perfect but dont let it deter you…if you have a 6, bust it big brudda and get fushin 1st and foremost
Don’t get me wrong, I love using my 6wt but I tend to use that more in the freshwater than my 8wt. But the 6wt is really fun to use in the salt simply because it’s smaller and lighter and you can feel the fish more than I like that.
