Frozen Shrimp Heads

Can you use frozen shrimp heads for recipes or are they trash? My wife won’t touch a fish or shrimp, but I wanted to make some shrimp broth-based recipes. When I got home after a shrimp run, she wasn’t in the mood to allow me to cook them in the house… so I froze the heads. Any good anymore? Recipe suggestions?

They should be fine for making shrimp stock. I use the shrimp stock for the base of my shrimp and grits:

Shrimp Stock: Peel 2 pounds of fresh shrimp and place the heads and peels in a large Dutch oven or pot. Add 3 quarts of water, a carrot, 2 stalks of celery, 1 onion. 1/2 cup each of fresh thyme, fresh basil, fresh oregano, and fresh parsley. Boil for 20 minutes then cool and strain. Extra stock can be frozen and used later in other dishes.

Long Enuff

Fantastic! Thanks!
