Anyone have any intel on fishing the Frying Pan Shoals area this time of the year. Headed up there next week for a family vacation and we’re probably bringing the boat with us. I’ve never fished that area and am just wondering if anyone has any insight for fishing that area in August.
Thanks.

Lots of african pompano and big AJs on the tower along with a few cobia. Buttrefly jig the up current side. Bring lots of jigs and strong backs.

Is there any use in trolling in that area this time of the year?

Kings on the shoal and South side of shoal. We used to troll zig-zag up on the shallower top then back down. Generally, 8-20# kings. You can sabiki bait near the tower (50-100 yards away or closer). Had a bent piece of aluminum pipe attached to a rope and would loop it around the tower frame could pull it loose by wrapping on a cleat and easing away. Kept you from having to drop a hook there. Allowed you to fish down current from the tower.

Thanks JB. That’s good info right there.
