Fuel Disposal

Had a nice talk with Julian at Charleston Marine today about my 1996 Johnson 112 VR that hasn’t been running. It will turn over but won’t fire. I have repaced the fuel water separator, the power pack, bulb and hose, fuel pump and installed a new battery. Julian pretty much convinced me that I am an ethanol victim and that we need to dump the existing fuel (some of which is over a year old) and replace the carbs.

I will probably have them do this for me but would like to sump out the fuel myself. I don’t like the idea of an electric sump pump around gas and might just try to siphon it out with a small diameter polyethylene hose. Anyhow, after I do this, where can I safely and legally dispose of the fuel?

Contact your local landfill/recycling place and they can probably give you the info you need.Or you can use it in the lawn mower.

Double D.

I know the refuse center in Summerville on Central Ave will take it.

Bee's Ferry is your best bet. The place downtown Charleston is too small and you have to leave your containers. That doesn't work.
