Hit the ICW with big plans this morning. Loaded up with FM (bait was everywhere)and headed towards a spot I have been wanting to check out. The boat ran great for about half an hour, then suddenly while running about 3/4 throttle, it bogged down and shut off. It seemed starved for fuel and when I felt the primer bulb, it was not very tight. I got the motor running as long asI kept squeezing the bulb. After a while I remembered the Fuel Enrichment Switch. It was originally in the “Normaln” position but if I switched it to “Closed” the motor seemed to run fine, even nearly wide open. The motor is an 03 Yamaha 70 TLRB. Can anyone give me some insight as to what the problem might be. I gotta get this fixed before shrimping season.
Thanks to all.

              Bueller, Bueller, Bueller…anyone, anyone?
I am kind of hoping this is something minor I can take care of without a trip to the mechanic.

I would check the anti siphon valve just because it is easy to do and they are cheap to replace. Check fuel lines for debris as well. It could be the fuel pump too. I just replaced mine because it would not run unless i kept priming. However, I know nothing about Fuel Enrichment Switches and not a whole lot about outboard motors. Just a few thoughts that came to mind. How does the fuel enrichment switch work? I am not a mechanic but I will help you think of things it could be. I know first hand how frustrating it can be. Just got mine back from the shop today. About to take it out to make sure the new fuel pump did the trick. Good luck bud.

sounds like dirty carb to me
the fuel enrichment valve dumps extra fuel into the engine
if it was fuel restriction with the boat, i dont think you would get teh extra fuel you needed

Thanks guys. I thought about trying to figure out the problem myself but wanted it fixed by the weekend and just don’t have time this week. Ended up taking it to a local shop that I trust. They should have it ready by Friday.
