Fuel Gauge

Last trip out on the boat fuel guage said full, then on the way back in at the end of the day it went to half and then started bouncing back and forth between quater and half. Now then gauge reads full regardless of whats in the tank. Tried cleaning up the connections at the tank and still get the same results. Sending unit or guage?

Sounds like a guage. Usally when a sender fails, the guage will read empty and then you can test the guage by grounding it out.

the only time a fuel gauge on a boat is accurate is when you are out of fuel and it reads----“Empty”

Get rid of that useless POS and get a real fuel flow meter. NorthStar makes a pretty inexpensive unit and it’s accurate.

Nothing but a “SMART-ELLIC”!

could be either, but a simple test.
unplug the pink wire from the back of the gauge if it goes to empty, its the sender
if it stays full, its teh gauge

Forgot to mention that the guage goes back to empty when I turn the key off. Thanks for the input.

same test, I did forget to say do the test with the key on

Chris, is there another easy test to try? I can’t get to the pink wire on the back of the guage. Thanks
